The former Sogdiana Plaza hotel building, reconstructed for one of Uzbekistan’s leading banks, occupies a 470 m2 plot on one of Samarkand’s main streets - in a dense cluster of two-storey structures. The rectangular two-storey building, with attic floor and basement, was built in 2008. As part of the conversion, measures were taken to strengthen its foundations, load-bearing columns and walls - as well as to strengthen metal beams and trusses. Redevelopment was also carried out on the geometry of its staircases, both internal and external. The new interior and exterior decoration uses suitably modern, expensive finishing materials produced in Uzbekistan. Particular attention has been paid to the building’s facade, which is coated with travertine slabs that complement the energy-efficient tempered glazing.
