Club Manzana
Sfax, Tunisia

The owner had planned to demolish this residence typical of 1970s architecture but was instead persuaded by the architects to renovate it to serve as a 20-person club for video projections, billiards, card games, a café, and a guest room. All of the original volumes and proportions were retained, and emphasis in the restoration was given to the original ironwork and engraved marble, notably for new screens or claustras and to enclose the veranda with glass to serve as a game room. A contemporary design vocabulary was introduced to update the original structure and to demonstrate the viability of restoring older structures.
