Middle East Technical University Staff Housing
Ankara, Turkey
The housing programme required accommodation for 1,000 families on a site covering 35 hectares of the east side of the campus. The site slopes towards the west and extends from north to south. Due to budgetary limitations, only 28 units have been realized in the central area of the allocated site. Each house lies on a rectangular plot with a L-shaped plan embracing a courtyard. The programme specified a surface area of 140 m2 per unit. A masonry construction system has been used. The walls are load-bearing brick. The upper floor slab and lintel beams are reinforced concrete. The sloped roofs have a timber frame structure and are covered with clay shingles.
