The project was set up in order to conserve the traditional aspects of the medinas of Tozem and Nefta, as part of an ambitious programme for tourist development in southern Tunisia. The intervention included resurfacing of streets, stripping and reconstituting of the facades of private houses, public buildings and gates, restoration of the decorative brick work of the facades, demolition of non-aesthetic modifications, and nationalization of building service.
