Devi Garh Hotel
Delwara, India
Not so much restoration, as a retrofitting of a new idea -- a hotel -- into an old setting. Many of the clues to the modernist design grew out of innately local and traditional ideas (for example the water channels in the gardens). At the same time new design inputs were given to regional crafts such as stonework and marble inlay, in order to update the skills and match them with modern lifestyles.
