Le Bo Ye Graphic Design
Jakarta, Indonesia
There are other ways of being responsive to a tropical climate than using a traditional pitched roof - so says the designer of this project, a renovation of a graphic design studio. The alternative proposed here draws on the 'sensual elements' of the climate, 'its abundant natural light and rainfall'. The main part of the office is a louvred enclosure - a box formed of timber strips and supported by steel columns arranged in a grid. The louvre starts some three metres from the ground, so the box appears to float. A covering of clear glass protects against rainfall.
