The White Mosque takes its circular layout from the shape of its site - a round spot in a city centre park. It takes its whiteness from a cladding of silicate brick, both smooth-textured and 'rustic'. The stylised cupola evokes the form of an overturned boat: the inside of the 'hull' - the roof of the main prayer hall - is constructed of laminated timber, with a circular band of thermo-reflective glass bringing light into the interior. The slim minaret is a conscious reminder of Brcko's 19th-century Dzedid Mosque, which was destroyed in the recent conflict.
