Zek 17 Residence
Ad Dubayyah, Lebanon

The ruins of a traditional house wrecked by mortar fire became the basis from which to create this new family home. In the first phase of reconstruction, a reinforced concrete jacketing was applied to the interior faces and a vertical circulation core was inserted into the southwest corner. A new block was then added alongside the original house; it is clad in matching limestone, but has its own dynamics. The point at which the new and old blocks meet is dematerialised, creating a living room that expands outwards to form an interior courtyard and a front porch.
