MATPUM Research Centre
Ankara, Turkey
This facility provides a platform for collaborations with other faculties and professions, mainly focusing on issues of energy and the environment. Energy efficiency is intrinsic to the design. Oriented east-west, the building is a linear block with an atrium forming a central street. The north façade flipping over into the roof is double-skinned to promote air circulation, while the south façade is transparent. Climate control is provided by heat transfer from these facades, and heat, wind and light sensors trigger integrated building systems. The result is an experimental intelligent building that is itself an object of study for students.
