Bezm-i Safa
Bodrum, Turkey
This privately owned social and cultural activity centre serves foreign visitors and the local population, hosting events such as communal meals, art exhibitions and Turkish music concerts. The building comprises a reinforced concrete shell, with rough-textured plastering on all exterior and interior walls to reflect the character of old village houses. Its volumes include interior and exterior spaces, and it is naturally ventilated. Surrounding orange and lemon groves provide shade for outdoor events in summer while the main interior space has a fireplace on one side and a glass wall on the other, allowing winter visitors to admire the garden in comfort.
