ABSTRACT

Dalverzintepe:
Kushansky City in the South of Uzbekistan

Дальверзинтепе: Кушанский Город На Юге Узбекистана

The
book aims to look into the historical topography of the city of Dalverzintepe,
located in the region of Termez. The author is particularly interested in the
fortifications, residential and industrial quarters and main features of the
material culture and arts in general. The book discusses the creation,
development and decline of this antique Central Asian city.

The
work begins with a brief historical overview of the valley of the Amu Darya river and refers to the location
of the historical city centre of Dalverzintepe. It also reviews the previous
historical studies of the city and includes its plan and a photo showing a
general aerial view.

The
first chapters deal mainly with building structures such as fortifications,
residential houses, and ceremonial buildings, such as temples. The author
analyses the construction techniques based on excavation results. He then
discusses the craftsmanship by observing the remains of ceramics, statuettes,
and drawings, and analyses the techniques employed by looking at the complexity
of the work.

The
author finally examines the overall historical process of the development of Dalverzintepe
in light of the archaeological research findings, cultural ideology and
artistic cultural expression.

The
book contains illustrations, maps and plans; both of the city centre and
separate buildings, along with schematic layouts of excavations and exploratory
wells. It includes tables of findings, photos, in black and white and colour,
of the excavation sites, and samples of material and artistic culture of the
historical city centre.
